Explanation
NOTE
The particle と can be used for quotation — to mark what someone said, thought, or asked. It comes after the quoted content and before a verb of communication like 言う (to say) or 思う (to think).
STRUCTURE
... とV辞
明日は雨だと思う。
Ashita wa ame da to omou.
I think it will rain tomorrow.
先生は静かにしろと言った。
Sensei wa shizuka ni shiro to itta.
The teacher said to be quiet.
田中さんは「おはよう」と言った。
Tanaka-san wa 'ohayō' to itta.
Mr. Tanaka said 'good morning.'
Example sentences
「おはようございます」と言いました。
I said, "Good morning."
あれは私の本だと思います。
I think that is my book.
彼は明日来ると言いました。
He said he would come tomorrow.
