NOTE

だいたい means approximately or about. Use it when giving a rough estimate of quantity, time, or degree.

NOTE

Place だいたい before a number, time expression, or verb to indicate an approximation. It can also mean mostly or for the most part when describing general situations.

だいたい三十さんじゅう分ぷんかかる。
Daitai sanjuppun kakaru.
It takes approximately thirty minutes.
毎日まいにちだいたい八はち時間じかん寝ねる。
Mainichi daitai hachi-jikan neru.
I sleep approximately eight hours every day.
