this ~
Explanation
NOTE
この means this and is used directly before a noun to describe something close to the speaker. Unlike これ, which stands alone, この always needs a noun after it.
NOTE
この is part of the こそあど system: この (near me), その (near you), あの (far from both). It works like an adjective — it modifies the noun that follows.
