u-verbs (masu)
Explanation
NOTE
To make the ます form of an う-verb, you change the final -u sound to the corresponding -i sound and add ます.
NOTE
The vowel shift follows the Japanese syllable chart: く → き, ぐ → ぎ, す → し, つ → ち, ぬ → に, ぶ → び, む → み, る → り, う → い.
STRUCTURE
Vます
日本語を話します。
Nihongo o hanashimasu.
I speak Japanese.
毎日本を読みます。
Mainichi hon o yomimasu.
I read books every day.
学校に行きます。
Gakkō ni ikimasu.
I go to school.
