u-verbs (past casual)
Explanation
NOTE
The た form of う-verbs is the casual past tense. Unlike る-verbs, the ending changes depending on the final consonant of the verb.
NOTE
The rules follow the same sound changes as the て form: く becomes いた, ぐ becomes いだ, す becomes した, む/ぶ/ぬ become んだ, つ/る/う become った.
NOTE
One important exception: いく (to go) becomes いった, not いいた.
学校に行った。
I went to school.
行く is an exception — いった, not いいた.
STRUCTURE
Vた
友達と話した。
Tomodachi to hanashita.
I talked with a friend.
本を読んだ。
Hon o yonda.
I read a book.
音楽を聞いた。
Ongaku o kiita.
I listened to music.
