Explanation
NOTE

〜はずだ expresses an expectation or logical deduction — "should be" or "is supposed to be". It's based on the speaker's knowledge.

彼女かのじょは今頃いまごろ着ついているはずだ。
She should have arrived by now.
Used here to express a strong expectation based on time passing.
NOTE

Unlike 〜わけだ (explains why), 〜はずだ anticipates what must be true. The negative form is 〜はずがない — "there's no way".
