place where something exists
Explanation
NOTE
The particle に marks the place where something or someone exists. You use it with the verbs いる (for living things) and ある (for non-living things).
NOTE
This is different from で, which marks where an action takes place. With に, you are simply stating that something is located there — no action involved.
STRUCTURE

机の上に本があります。
Tsukue no ue ni hon ga arimasu.
There is a book on the desk.
公園に猫がいます。
Kouen ni neko ga imasu.
There is a cat in the park.
部屋に誰かいます。
Heya ni dareka imasu.
Someone is in the room.
