Explanation
NOTE
ところだ attaches to the dictionary form of a verb and means about to do ~. It describes a moment right before an action begins.
NOTE
Think of ところ as a point in time. With the dictionary form, you are at the point just before the action happens.
STRUCTURE

Eiga ga hajimaru tokoro desu.
The movie is about to start.
晩ごはんを食べるところだ。
