Explanation
NOTE
ているところだ combines the ている progressive form with ところだ and means in the middle of doing ~. It emphasizes that you are at the exact moment of performing the action.
NOTE
While ている alone also means is doing, adding ところだ highlights that you are right in the middle of the action — often used when someone interrupts or asks what you are doing.
