to become ~
Explanation
NOTE

The pattern くなる means to become ~ when used with i-adjectives. Drop the final and add くなる to express a change of state.

NOTE

This follows the standard i-adjective conjugation. For example: 暑い (hot) → 暑くなる (to become hot), 寒い (cold) → 寒くなる (to become cold).
