Explanation
NOTE
折角 expresses that effort was made or a rare opportunity exists — meaning after going to all that trouble or now that we have the chance. It implies the effort or opportunity deserves to be valued.
折角来たのに、もう閉まっていた。
After going to all the trouble of coming, it was already closed.
Used here to express disappointment when an effort made leads to a negative result.
NOTE
折角 is used when a precious effort or opportunity is wasted (with a regretful result), or when the speaker wants to make sure it is not wasted. Used with both past and present situations.
