Explanation
NOTE
〜ことになる expresses that something has been decided by external circumstances, other people, or as a natural outcome.
来月から大阪に転勤することになった。
It has been decided that I will transfer to Osaka starting next month.
The decision came from the company, not the speaker.
NOTE
Unlike ことにする, the speaker is not actively deciding. The result comes from outside forces or natural circumstances.
新しい店を開くことになった。
It has been decided that a new store will open.
