while
during, between
Explanation
NOTE
〜間に means while / during / between — something happens at some point within that interval.
出張している間に、引っ越しをした。
While I was on a business trip, I moved house.
Use 'aida ni' to indicate that a single action occurred within the duration of a longer ongoing state or action.
NOTE
〜間に (event at some point during) differs from 〜間 without に (throughout the entire span).
STRUCTURE

Kodomo ga hirune shite iru aida ni sentaku o shita.
While the child was taking a nap, I did the laundry.
彼が外に出ている間に部屋を片付けた。

Matte iru aida ni hon o yonda.
