NOTE
〜に対して has two uses:
Use 1 — Towards / regarding: an attitude, action, or feeling directed at someone or something.
先生に対して失礼なことを言ってはいけない。
You must not say rude things towards your teacher.
Use this to indicate the target or recipient of an action, such as an attitude or behavior.

Kare wa hihan ni taishite okotta.
He got angry in response to the criticism.
彼女は子供に対して優しい。
Kanojo wa kodomo ni taishite yasashii.
She is kind towards children.
質問に対して、丁寧に答えた。
Shitsumon ni taishite, teinei ni kotaeta.
I answered the question politely in response to it.
NOTE
Use 2 — In contrast to: combined with a plain-form verb + の, it contrasts two opposing situations.
姉が外向的なのに対して、妹は内向的だ。
In contrast to my older sister being outgoing, my younger sister is introverted.
This usage is for comparing two things or people that have different characteristics.

Ani ga supootsu ga tokui na no ni taishite, otouto wa benkyou ga tokui da.
In contrast to my older brother being good at sports, my younger brother is good at studying.
Aチームが強いのに対して、Bチームは弱い。
A chiimu ga tsuyoi no ni taishite, B chiimu wa yowai.
In contrast to Team A being strong, Team B is weak.
