Explanation
NOTE
〜合う attaches to the ます-stem to express doing something mutually or with each other.
二人で話し合った。
The two talked it over (with each other).
話し合う → talked with each other
NOTE
〜合う conjugates like a regular u-verb: 話し合う → 話し合った, 話し合って.
