Explanation
NOTE
〜ほど〜ない expresses a comparison — "A is not as [adjective] as B." B is the standard of comparison.
今日は昨日ほど寒くない。
Today is not as cold as yesterday.
Used here to compare the degree of coldness between two different days.
NOTE
The negative adjective shows the subject does not reach that level. Pattern: AはBほど[Adj-I]くない / [Adj-Na]ではない

Kono eiga wa zenkai hodo omoshiroku nakatta.
This movie was not as interesting as the last one.

この問題はあの問題ほど難しくない。
Kono mondai wa ano mondai hodo muzukashiku nai.
