Explanation
NOTE

〜とする means to assume, consider, or suppose that. It sets up a hypothesis or working assumption for discussion or calculation.

AをBの二倍にばいとする。
Let A be twice B (assume A equals twice B).
Used here to define or establish a mathematical or logical condition.
NOTE

とする is common in academic, mathematical, and logical reasoning. The patterns とすると and とするなら introduce the consequent of the assumption.

彼女かのじょが正直しょうじきに話はなしているとするなら、信しんじるべきだ。
If we assume she is speaking honestly, we should believe her.
Used to pose a hypothetical situation or a premise for an argument.

Kanojo ga shoujiki ni hanashite iru to suru nara, shinjiru beki da.
If we assume she is speaking honestly, we should believe her.
