〜ずに
without doing
Explanation
NOTE
〜ずに means "without doing" — the formal/literary equivalent of 〜ないで. It attaches to the negative stem (same stem as ない).
何も言わずに部屋を出た。
He left the room without saying anything.
〜ずに is a formal way to say 'without doing' something. It is attached to the negative stem of the verb.
NOTE
Special exception: する → せずに (not しずに). 〜ずに is more common in written or formal Japanese, while 〜ないで is the everyday spoken form.
準備せずに試験を受けた。
I took the exam without preparing.
For the verb する (to do), the form becomes せずに.
