NOTE

〜に先立さきだって means prior to or before — a formal expression preceding a significant event.

出発しゅっぱつに先立さきだって、説明会せつめいかいが行おこなわれた。
Prior to departure, a briefing was held.
Typically used in formal contexts such as ceremonies, business events, or official announcements.
NOTE

Common preceding nouns are significant events: 出発, 会議, 結婚けっこん, 試験しけん.

NOTE

Attach に先立って directly to a noun. It is the te-form variant of the formal に先立ち.
