Explanation
NOTE
〜ところを見ると means judging from the fact that — drawing a conclusion from observed evidence.
笑っているところを見ると、合格したらしい。
Judging from the fact that he's smiling, it seems he passed.
The speaker observes a visible cue and infers a likely cause.
NOTE
The second clause is the speaker's guess or judgment — often paired with らしい, ようだ, or にちがいない.
NOTE
Attaches to verbs in plain form or 〜ている form — the observed fact comes before ところを見ると.
