〜以来
since
Explanation
NOTE
〜以来 means ever since or from the time of — marking a starting point in the past, with a state or pattern that has continued up to now.
卒業以来、彼に会っていない。
I haven't seen him since graduation.
The main clause describes an ongoing state or repeated action that started at that point.
NOTE
Because the starting point must already be in the past, 〜以来 is not used for very recent events or for one-time actions.
NOTE
With nouns, attach 以来 directly to a noun that refers to a past event or time (卒業, 入学, あの日…).

Ever since that accident, I've been afraid to ride in a car.
去年の夏以来、祖母に会っていない。
Kyonen no natsu irai, sobo ni atte inai.
I haven't seen my grandmother since last summer.
NOTE
With verbs, use the て-form + 以来 to mean ever since (doing) ~ (来て以来, 始めて以来).

Nihon ni kite irai, mainichi nihongo o benkyou shite iru.

Piano o hajimete irai, ongaku ga daisuki ni natta.
Ever since I started piano, I've come to love music.
彼と別れて以来、一度も連絡していない。
Kare to wakarete irai, ichido mo renraku shite inai.
Ever since I broke up with him, I haven't contacted him even once.
