with ~ as
Explanation
NOTE
〜を〜として means regard X as Y or use X as Y — it assigns a role, status, or purpose to X.
この部屋を書斎として使っている。
I'm using this room as a study.
X is the thing being treated; Y is the role it plays.
NOTE
Both slots are nouns. X takes the particle を and Y takes として — they form one unit.
NOTE
Often used in formal or written contexts — appointments, designations, official roles, or repurposing objects.
STRUCTURE

この部屋を勉強部屋として使います。
Kono heya wo benkyou heya toshite tsukaimasu.
I use this room as a study room.
ボランティア活動を趣味として楽しんでいます。
Borantia katsudou wo shumi toshite tanoshinde imasu.
I enjoy volunteer activities as my hobby.
あの場所を目的地として出発しましょう。
Ano basho wo mokutekichi toshite shuppatsu shimashou.
Let's set out with that place as our destination.
彼を議長として選んだ。
Kare o gichou toshite eranda.
We chose him as chairperson.
この建物を図書館として利用している。
Kono tatemono o toshokan toshite riyou shite iru.
We use this building as a library.
箱を椅子として使った。
Hako o isu toshite tsukatta.
I used a box as a chair.
