Explanation
NOTE
〜として means as or in the capacity of — it states the role, position, or status of someone or something.
彼は医者として働いている。
He works as a doctor.
Attaches directly to a noun describing a role, job, or status.
NOTE
Use it to describe a role, profession, or purpose — as a teacher, as a hobby, as a souvenir, etc.
NOTE
Don't confuse it with にとって (from the viewpoint of) — 〜として states the role you play, not your perspective.
