Explanation
NOTE
〜というものだ expresses the speaker's evaluative judgment — that's what X is or that's only natural.
困った時に助け合うのが友達というものだ。
Helping each other in tough times — that's what friends are.
Used to give a definitive, almost philosophical statement about something's true nature.
NOTE
The tone is definitive and assertive — stating a general truth, social norm, or self-evident fact.
NOTE
With nouns, attach というものだ directly to the dictionary form (友達 → 友達というものだ).
STRUCTURE

Oya ga ko wo shinpai suru no wa aijou to iu mono da.
A parent worrying about their child — that's what love is.
約束を守るのが大人というものだ。

With verbs, attach というものだ to the plain dictionary form (働く → 働くというものだ).
