NOTE

〜ことから means from the fact that or because of — used to state an objective reason or basis for a conclusion, judgment, or name.

窓まどが開あいていることから、誰だれかが入はいったとわかる。
From the fact that the window is open, we can tell someone entered.
Often used in writing or formal speech to introduce evidence-based reasoning.
NOTE

The second clause usually describes a judgment, conclusion, or explanation of how something got its name, not a subjective feeling.

NOTE

With verbs, attach ことから directly to the plain form (開いている → 開いていることから).

Ashiato ga nokotteiru koto kara, hannin wa dansei da to wakatta.
From the fact that footprints remained, we knew the culprit was a man.
富士山ふじさんが見みえることから、この町まちは富士見ふじみ町ちょうと呼よばれている。
Fujisan ga mieru koto kara, kono machi wa Fujimi-chou to yobareteiru.
From the fact that Mt. Fuji can be seen, this town is called Fujimi-cho.
彼かれが遅刻ちこくしたことから、会議かいぎは延期えんきされた。
Kare ga chikoku shita koto kara, kaigi wa enki sareta.
Because of the fact that he was late, the meeting was postponed.

With i-adjectives, attach ことから directly to the dictionary form (高い → 高いことから).

Kono chiiki wa natsu demo suzushii koto kara, hishochi to shite shirareteiru.
From the fact that this area is cool even in summer, it is known as a summer resort.
事故じこが多おおいことから、この交差点こうさてんに信号しんごうが設置せっちされた。
Jiko ga ooi koto kara, kono kousaten ni shingou ga secchi sareta.
From the fact that accidents are frequent, a traffic light was installed at this intersection.
水みずが美うつくしいことから、この川かわは清流せいりゅうと呼よばれている。
Mizu ga utsukushii koto kara, kono kawa wa seiryuu to yobareteiru.
From the fact that the water is beautiful, this river is called a clear stream.
