Explanation
NOTE
〜きり means only or just — it limits an amount, a number, or a person to that single instance and nothing more.
一人きりで住んでいる。
I live only by myself (all alone).
一人きり emphasizes total solitude — *only one person, no one else*.
NOTE
〜きり often pairs with small numbers (一度, 一人, 二人, 少し) to stress that nothing exceeds that limit.
NOTE
It is similar to だけ or のみ, but 〜きり carries a stronger feeling of finiteness — that's all there is.

I met them only once.
