NOTE
〜ものと思っていた means was under the impression that — you assumed something was true in the past.
会議は明日だものと思っていた。
I was under the impression that the meeting was tomorrow.
NOTE
It often implies the assumption turned out to be wrong — reality differed from what you believed.

I was under the impression that the store was open.
