NOTE
〜もってのほかだ means out of the question / absurd — something completely unacceptable.
授業中に寝るなんてもってのほかだ。
Sleeping during class is out of the question.
NOTE
It expresses strong disapproval. The tone is formal and the speaker is clearly indignant.
無断欠勤はもってのほかだ。
Skipping work without notice is absurd.
It often appears at the end of a sentence, judging an action as outrageous.
NOTE
Attach もってのほかだ to a noun or a verb in dictionary form, often via なんて or こと.
