Explanation
NOTE
〜はめになる means to end up in a bad situation — reaching an unwanted result, often by circumstance.
終電を逃して、歩いて帰るはめになった。
I missed the last train and ended up walking home.
NOTE
The result is always negative or troublesome, and usually something the speaker did not want or expect.
嘘がばれて、謝るはめになった。
My lie was exposed and I ended up apologizing.
The unwanted outcome follows naturally from the earlier action.
NOTE
Attach はめになる to a verb in dictionary form. The verb names the unwanted action you end up doing.
