Explanation
NOTE

〜につけ means every time or whenever — one thing always brings about a certain feeling or thought.

この歌うたを聞きくにつけ、故郷こきょうを思おもい出だす。
Every time I hear this song, I remember my hometown.
NOTE

It is formal and literary. The second clause expresses a natural, spontaneous emotion or thought, not a deliberate action.

昔むかしの写真しゃしんを見みるにつけ、家族かぞくが恋こいしくなる。
Whenever I look at old photos, I miss my family.
The result is an involuntary feeling, so verbs of intention rarely follow につけ.
NOTE

Attach につけ to a verb in dictionary form. It is often used with verbs of perception like see, hear, or think.
