NOTE
〜ではあるまいか means isn't it...? — the speaker offers a careful guess or supposition.

NOTE
It is formal and literary, common in writing. It softly raises a possibility rather than stating it.
彼は真実を知っているのではあるまいか。
Isn't it the case that he knows the truth?
After a verb or i-adjective clause, add の before ではあるまいか to nominalize it.
NOTE
Attach ではあるまいか directly to a noun. The noun states what the speaker suspects to be true.
