Explanation
NOTE
ただ〜のみ means nothing but or only — it limits the statement to one single thing.
私はただ真実を知りたいのみです。
I want nothing but to know the truth.
NOTE
It is formal and literary. ただ sits at the front and のみ marks the one thing being singled out.
合格のために、ただ努力のみが必要だ。
To pass, nothing but effort is needed.
のみ can be followed by particles such as が or は just like the noun it limits.
NOTE
With a noun, place ただ before it and attach のみ directly after the noun.
