Explanation
NOTE
〜を兼ねて means and also or partly for — one action serves two purposes at once.
散歩を兼ねて買い物に行った。
I went shopping, partly for a walk as well.
NOTE
It is formal. The purpose before 〜を兼ねて is the secondary one; the main action follows it.
勉強を兼ねて海外へ行く。
I go abroad, partly for study as well.
The noun before 〜を兼ねて is usually an action noun, such as 勉強 or 散歩.
NOTE
Attach を兼ねて directly to a noun, usually one that describes an activity.
