NOTE
〜に照らして means in light of or based on — something is judged by comparing it against a standard.
法律に照らして判断する。
We will judge it in light of the law.
NOTE
It is formal and often follows a noun like rules, standards, or precedent used as the reference for judging.
基準に照らして評価する。
We will evaluate it against the standard.
に照らして is used when checking something against a fixed reference such as rules or standards.
NOTE
Attach に照らして directly to a noun. To modify a following noun, use the form に照らした.
