Explanation
NOTE
〜なり〜なり means whether... or — it lists two options and tells the listener to freely pick one.
電話なりメールなりで連絡してください。
Please contact me by phone or by email.
NOTE
It is formal and often used in advice or suggestions. The two listed items are example choices, not the only ones.
休むなり遊ぶなり好きにしていいよ。
Whether you rest or play, do as you like.
なり attaches directly to verbs in dictionary form as well as to nouns.
NOTE
With verb choices, attach なり directly to each verb in dictionary form.
STRUCTURE
V辞なり + [V][辞]なり
食べるなり飲むなり自由にどうぞ。
Taberu nari nomu nari jiyuu ni douzo.
Whether you eat or drink, please feel free.
歩くなり走るなり運動しなさい。
Aruku nari hashiru nari undou shinasai.
Whether you walk or run, get some exercise.
本を読むなり映画を見るなりして休もう。
Hon o yomu nari eiga o miru nari shite yasumou.
Whether reading a book or watching a movie, let's relax.
NOTE
With noun choices, attach なり directly to each noun.
