Explanation
NOTE
〜ことこの上ない means nothing is more... than — a quality is at the highest possible degree.
一人で暮らすのは寂しいことこの上ない。
Living alone is lonely beyond compare.
NOTE
It is formal and emphatic, used in writing to stress a strong feeling or impression.
彼の態度は失礼なことこの上ない。
His attitude is rude beyond compare.
Use 〜ことこの上ない mainly with adjectives describing feelings or impressions.
NOTE
Attach ことこの上ない to an i-adjective in dictionary form.
